A Photo A Day: Week 21

Day 141
May 21: While I was in the shower I heard a large CRASH. Apparently Eli tried to use the drawers on Jonah's dresser as a ladder. Luckily no one was seriously hurt, even though we took a trip to the doctor's office to make sure!

Day 142
May 22: Saturdays are always busy around our house. We have been getting our garden all planted and finally got all the cages and sprinklers set up. I noticed how cool our garden looks with all the cages for the plants. It is like a wire circle sculpture or something.

Day 143
May 23: Like father, like sons! This picture of Honey Daddy and the boys watching something on the computer just made me laugh. I have the feeling they may grow up to be a bit like Daddy.  It's funny how even kids' gestures are influenced by their parents though we sometimes don't realize it.

Day 144

May 24: Woke up this morning and almost passed out! There was white junk all over my lawn. I can't believe we got SNOW at the end of MAY! This is just insane. I got to spend part of my morning covering up all the tomato and pepper plants in the garden, lest they die. Fun times, let me tell you.

Day 145
May 25: To make up for the snow yesterday, we actually had some sun today. I took the boys to the park and enjoyed some time laying back, admiring the view while they played.

Day 146
May 26: This picture is for you, Chris! Here is your obligatory late night photo. I had just gotten all warm and snuggly in bed when I remembered that I had not yet taken a picture for the day. So here is a picture of the lamp and alarm clock by my warm and cozy bed... right before I got back into it!

Day 147
May 27: Isn't Eli such a cutie? You can't tell, but he is actually looking at books and glanced up for a minute. I love his beautiful eyes and fuzzy blonde head. If you look closely you can see that the cut by the corner of his eye from the dresser disaster (of Day 141) is healing nicely.

Bicycle More, Blog Less

Were you starting to wonder where I'd gone? The past couple of days have turned into an unexpected blogging vacation for me, since I got too busy having fun to post anything!

I know that I missed posting my regular Photostory Friday and Project 365 posts, but I had family visiting and then we all went to a "Day out with Thomas". So spending time with my family won out over spending time here.

Then today my husband and I rode 77 miles together on our bikes. He is helping me train for my first century ride (100 miles), which is next weekend.  It was so much fun to ride together today, but boy is my behind sore!
I guess you could say that when I bicycle more, I blog less. Ah well, I guess such is life. I'll post all my goodies and catch up with you all shortly!

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Crash, Boom, Bang! Off to the Doctor We Go!

I had a feeling when I woke up on Friday it was going to be one of those days. My fever had gone down significantly, but I was still feeling tired, head-achy, and my throat was really sore. I was hoping I could spend the day at home, just resting.

The boys were playing really well together, so I decided to hop in the shower. The warm water always makes me feel better.

I was just about finished in the shower I heard a very loud CRASH and then a BOOM.
Oh no! What was that?!
Then I heard both of my boys crying.

Needles to say I jumped out of the shower and ran to see what happened. You can imagine my shock and horror when I found this:

Apparently little Eli had decided to use the drawers of Jonah's dresser as a ladder in an attempt to reach something on top of the dresser... and the whole thing tipped over. It crashed into the bookcase and dumped everything onto the floor.

The boys were mostly crying because they were scared... but little Eli did get a bit banged up:

Ouch! I could not decide if I needed to take him to the doctor or not... but I consulted with my husband and we decided that it was better to be safe than sorry.

Of course the nurse said that he did not need stitches and it should heal just fine. I felt a little silly about going to the doctor's office for nothing, especially when I wasn't feeling well, but it was good to know that he was o.k. I'm glad that both of my boys (the little monkeys) survived the attack of the dresser.

I guess I will be looking into anchoring the dressers to the wall in the near future!

A Photo A Day: Week 20

Day 133
May 13: For his birthday I made Jonah this Buzz Lightyear cake and Little green men cupcakes. He thought it was awesome!

Day 134
May 14: Today we went to the pool and the boys had a blast! I sort-of wish that I had been brave enough to take my camera to the pool... but I'm not. So here is a picture of the mountains I took on our way home.

Day 135
May 15: Would you believe me if I told you that I had over a dozen bikes in my garage last night? Most of them were brand new too! Honey Daddy and I got my parents into cycling. This month they bought two folding bikes to put in my Dad's airplane so they can take them on trips. Then they also upgraded to two newer, faster bikes! What can I say, it's addicting!

Day 136
May 16: It was a beautiful day so we walked to church. On the way both of the boys were picking up dandelions so they could blow the fluff off. Little Eli picked a dandelion and then skipped off to catch up with Daddy... scattering seeds as he went. It was so precious that I wanted to hang onto that moment, so when he is all grown up I can remember this adorable towheaded boy of mine.

Day 137

May 17: Today we went to the zoo and had SO much fun. Jonah said that his favorite part is the large elephant statue that makes funny noises. Eli says it is "carries!", which is "scary" for those of you that don't speak his language. Both of the boys LOVED the carousel. I actually had to pry Jonah off the pole of his zebra.

Day 138
May 18: Having boys sure does change a girl! I never really liked bugs, but my boys think they are fascinating. So now I find myself running towards bugs so I can put them in jars for the boys to see, rather than running away. Here is our first victim, umm... I mean catch of the summer; a big, fat beetle.

Day 139
May 19: This week it has been raining on and off. It's driving me crazy, but most of my plants don't seem to mind! Aren't my irises pretty?

Day 140
May 20: Here is the reason that I am late posting today... I almost didn't post at all. I have had a fever most of the day and feel like roadkill. No nausea or cold symptoms, just muscle aches, fever and a headache.  It's so hard to be the Mommy and be sick. Luckily for me Honey Daddy helped out a ton this afternoon. Now I am off to get some sleep so I can feel better tomorrow!

Buzz Lightyear Birthday

I can't believe that my little boy is already four years old! But the evidence is indisputable... now when you ask him how old he is, this is what you get:

Jonah had a great birthday party and a fantastic birthday. I decorated the entire living room with a Toy Story Theme. There are tons of great pictures online, so I printed them out and stuck them on the walls. Jonah was SO excited when he got up in the morning and saw all the decorations!

We played musical chairs, pin the Space Ranger Badge on Buzz, and a ball game that we called "Save the Galaxy!". Then we opened presents and played with bubbles outside for a while. When it was almost time for the party to end, we had cupcakes and ice cream.

Wanna see the cake and cupcakes I made for Jonah?

Pretty cool, huh? I got the idea while searching for ideas for Eli's birthday cake. I was originally going to make the planet an entire sphere instead of a dome, but I decided for my own sanity it was better this way. I like how the little green men cupcakes turned out too!

Since the birthday party was actually the day before Jonah's birthday, we got to spend his actual birthday hanging out with his Grandma. Then in the evening we had our own family party. Jonah had so much fun opening his presents! He got some cool Toy Story Legos, some cute clothes, a fantastic crane, and the one thing he wanted most of all....

Yep. He got his garbage truck! He wanted it SO badly, but I wasn't sure he would really play with it that much. I am happy to say I was wrong. The boys have been playing with it nonstop since we got it!

I am so glad Jonah had a great birthday. I know this because he wrote a note to Honey Daddy and me. He told us it said, "Dear Mommy and Daddy, Thank for you for the garbage truck. I love it! I had a great birthday! Love Jonah"

What a sweetheart!

A Photo A Day: Week 19

Day 127
May 7: The abandoned sandbox. This is how my sandbox looks after the boys have run off to do something else for a while. I especially like the shovel in the top right corner.

Day 128
May 8: My irises are starting to bloom! Hooray!

Day 129
May 9: Mother's Day was a nice, quiet day at home with the cutest boys a mommy could ever have! I love being a Mommy and this picture shows the two reasons I love it!

Day 130
May 10: Wow! We actually went out to eat with friends! The food was decent and we had a great time talking. It was a soggy day and we actually saw a rainbow on our way there... but alas, none of the pictures turned out very well.

Day 131
May 11: Monumental Day! My four year old actually took a nap this afternoon! When I went to look for him after lunch, this is where I found him. So cute, huh? I hurried and put his little brother down too, so I had over an hour to myself with the wonderful sound of silence!

Day 132
May 12: Playgroup/preschool was at our house today, so of course we had a birthday party for Jonah. The theme was Buzz Lightyear/ Toy Story. We played musical chairs, pin the space ranger badge on Buzz, and Save the Galaxy. It was tons of fun! Here is the star of the party (wearing his space ranger glasses).

Day 132 was Jonah's actual birthday. I was SO busy that I didn't have time to write this post and I have TONS of pictures to choose from. So you'll get that picture next week!

Happy Birthday Jonah!

I can just see myself four years ago. You know how it goes... before your first baby you do everything you can to prepare. You buy baby clothes. You read "American Baby" and other parenting magazines and makes lists of "necessities" for your new baby.. and then you go buy too much of that stuff. You make lists of names. You get the crib set up and the car seat ready. You attend the prenatal class offered at your local hospital. You pack your bags for the hospital. You feel some relief, knowing that you are prepared for this baby.

Then it happens... you give birth and realize that NOTHING could have prepared you for this.

You are no longer just a woman, you are a mother. All of the sudden your heart expands and life changes forever. You are wrapped up in your little one and the wonder of watching him grow.

Then before you know it, he is no longer a baby or even a pudgy toddler. All of the sudden he is a boy. I can't believe that my baby is going to be four years old at the end of this week! Isn't he a handsome little man?

Thank you Jonah for being my first baby. Thank you for being so patient with me as I learned what being a mother is really all about. Thank you for sharing all your smiles, cuddles, giggles, tickles, hugs, questions, silliness and your love with me. I love you so!

Happy Birthday Bubby!

Mother Day Blessings

What could be better on Mother's Day than getting adorable gifts like these:

From the most handsome and bestest boys a mommy could ever have?

I love being a mommy! I love being able to spend my time with these two precious boys and watch them grow. We have challenging days and we have fun days, but every day is worth it.

Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love.

So how was your Mother's Day? I hope it was a happy one!

A Photo A Day: Week 18

Day 120
April 30: Have you had your break today? It was yet another windy, rainy, yucky day. So I decided to take the boys somewhere to play. They had a great time and I got to read my book for a while. Don't say you haven't done this before!

Day 121
May 1: I took SO many pictures today. Pictures of Eli playing with Cheerios, closeups of the boys faces and pictures of the boys getting haircuts. Then when the boys were taking a bath in the evening I got this shot of them giggling their guts out in the tub. It makes me smile every time I see it, so I guess that means it's a good shot for the day.

Day 122
May 2: Another stir-crazy indoor day. I let the boys do all kinds of silly things... like jumping off their beds and running around like wild indians. Later in the afternoon I felt like supermom when I got the great idea to build a fort, which was a smashing success. I am SO glad we are due for some nice weather soon!

Day 123
May 3: Finally some sunshine. Of course I was too busy to take fun photos... but check out my strawberries! They apparently are enjoying the cool, wet weather we have been having.

Day 124
May 4: On our way home from aerobics we saw a crane in operation at the nearby pipe factory. So of course we had to drive over and watch. While we were there I noticed all this colorful graffiti on the walls of a tiny storage unit complex. I find it graffiti strangely compelling, but isn't it too bad that these artists waste their talent like that?

Day 125
May 5: Last night we planted our vegetable garden! I can't wait for fresh tomatoes. My Honey hasn't had time to set up the drip system yet, so today the boys helped me water the plants. They thought it was SO fun!

Day 126
May 6: Yesterday we actually managed to have a nice picnic in the park with friends. It was SO much fun. While we were there, Jonah found some pine cones that we just HAD to take home. He knows how much Grandma likes them, so we brought them with us. Later he asked me if he could paint them red (his favorite color). I thought... sure, why not?! I think they look pretty good. Maybe I've got a little interior decorator on my hands!
