We decided to have a monster bash for Jonah's sixth birthday because monsters are always fun, right? We started off with just the right invitations:
Here are some of the envelopes that Jonah and I made. They are basically just a rectangle of felt that we sealed together on the sides with hot glue, and then closed with a bit of velcro. Next we added googly eyes, some teeth and-- ta-dah! Monsters!
The actual party invitation was inside the monster envelopes. We had so much fun delivering them to Jonah's friends.
Jonah and Eli cracked me up when they put the monster eyes on their own faces. Don't they look great?
We actually used the take-home bags as decorations, and I think they turned out great! Inside the bags were play-doh, bubbles and a monster ball like the purple one on the table. I wish I had taken a picture before I put the bags together because the play-doh and bubbles had monster eyes on them too.
Of course we also had cups with googly eyes on them, which the kids though was fun.
We had lots of great games. The first game we played was, "I Have a Little Monster and He Won't Bite You!". It is pretty much just like duck-duck-goose.
Then we had a "monster stomp". The object of this game was to pop the balloons tied to friend's ankles, while keeping yours safe.
As you probably guessed from the picture above, we played "Stick the Eye on the Monster".
My favorite activity was the monster races. We got some fun Monster Feet, which are like stilts. Then the kids used them to stomp across the yard. I tried to tell the kids it was easier with shoes on, but they had a blast regardless.
After the games wore everyone out, we paused to open presents and have our monster mouth photo booth. I was surprised how easy it was to get the kids to let me take their picture, especially if I showed it to them right after!
All that fun made the kids monstrously hungry! So we had some fun monster cupcakes and ice cream.
I was pretty pleased at how the cupcakes turned out. I found the idea on Pinterest and followed the tutorial from Annie's Eats. They were pretty easy to make and I have to say that they were a hit with the kids!
Jonah had a fabulous birthday! I can hardly believe that he is already six! What a big boy.
His actual birthday was on Mother's Day, so we saved the cake for the next day. I think it was pretty cool too.
What do you think?
Deb, the party looks like it was a ton of fun. It looks like it was a lot of work, but the kids all had smiles on their faces, so I'm sure it was worth it! Loved it!
