The Tale of Teddy

You may remember that my very first blog post was about Teddy. Jonah loves his blue bear SO much. Teddy has been around for a very long time and been through a lot. You should go read that post again to get reacquainted, but just to jog your memory, here is one of the earliest pictures I have of Teddy with Jonah.
This picture was taken before Jonah was even a year old. Even then he loved Teddy. I can't get over how soft, clean and fluffy Teddy looks!

Then when I wrote my last blog post about Teddy it was in June of 2008. Here is what Teddy looked like then.
You can see that he is not so fluffy and definitely looks well loved. Teddy has been Jonah's companion for the past two and a half years. Teddy goes with us on long trips and is always there to keep Jonah company in bed at night.

Lately Jonah has been begging me to put some more stuffing in Teddy. Apparently Teddy was getting a bit too flopsy for Jonah. I can't say that his assessment was wrong. Here is a picture I took of Teddy the weekend before his minor surgery.

I realize now that I should have washed Teddy before I re-stuffed him because he is a bit dirtier than usual in this picture, but at least it shows you how loved he really is.

In case you can't tell, Teddy had absolutely no stuffing left from his neck down to his legs. Don't ask me where it went!

So I finally picked up some batting so that poor Teddy could sit and stand up again. Jonah was really excited that I was going to make Teddy less floppy and more fat. He watched as I carefully opened up the seam in Teddy's back. Then he even helped me stuff in as much stuffing as we possibly could. Then I sewed Teddy back up.

Here is Teddy post-op.

Jonah is really impressed with all the things that Teddy can do now! Teddy can sit up by himself. Teddy can stand on his head! Teddy is much more huggable! Jonah LOVES that Teddy is no longer squished flat.

I am glad that I finally got around to Jonah's request. It really made him happy. Jonah made me laugh when he told me that Teddy is no longer bossy now that he is stuffed! How funny is that?

Next Teddy needs to take another spin through the washer. I hope it doesn't compact him too much!

  1. Awww! How sweet! My youngest daughter was very attached to a Baby Bop stuffy. She is now 9 years old and just gave it to her 2-year-old half-sister (her dad's daughter), who LOVES all things Barney. I was proud of her for giving it to her, but a little sad too!

  2. How precious! I am really impressed with your surgical skills. I had no idea you were such a talented surgeon.

Isn't it sweet when children have a favorite stuffy? When my oldest was one, she was obsessed with her small stuffed Elmo. She took him every where.

  7. Yay for fixing Teddy! He looks so happy.

I had to do a minor surgery on "baby" a couple weeks ago, too.

  8. It's amazing to me HOW different he looks from that first photo! Not just his stuffing but his shape too! Hardly looks like the same bear. Glad you were able to help him out though.

We have VERY beloved "stuffies" here too and I just always worry what would happen if we ever lost one!!

  10. Those picks are adorable. I love the sad decline of the beloved Teddy Bear. For better or worse, I was the teddy bear to my two and now I am saggy and in need of minor surgery! Wink!
