Scavenger Hunt Sunday {9•9•12}

Sorry I missed the hunt last week! I was just getting home from our anniversary trip to San Francisco and I had SO many pictures to look through and share. You will have to forgive me because most of these pictures are from last week, and for some of the prompts I had to share more than one picture!

Monochromatic

When my husband and I walked through Chinatown on our first night in San Francisco, we passed by the Bank of America. The walls of the entrance to the bank were shiny and golden, so I had to stop and take a second look. They were just little tiles painted gold, but they looked pretty impressive at night.

Forgive me for posting two pictures for this prompt, but I had to share a picture of the metal panels and rivets of the Golden Gate Bridge. Seeing the bridge was one of the highlights of my visit, and you can see more pictures here.

Starts with the Letter...

This is some graffiti that I found while traveling around San Francisco. I can't really tell you what it says, but I know it starts with the letter J!

Upside Down

This is the inside of the dome of the Palace of Fine Arts in SF. I do not have a wide angle lens, so I actually laid down on the ground to get as much of the dome in the picture as I could. So I guess you could say I put my up-side down to get this photo.

Hair

In many shops in Chinatown they sold these lovely dolls, and as you can see they had elaborate costumes and hairstyles.

Soft

This is my "soft" picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, since it is shrouded in fog. I waited at Battery Spencer for quite a while for the fog to lift, and you can see the picture without fog here.

I did not actually touch this seagull perched on the railing of the pier, but I probably could have because he wasn't very shy! I am pretty sure that he was soft and downy.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {8.26.12}

School

This week was Jonah's first day of first grade. So I took the obligatory picture with a sign showing the grade and year. Isn't he a cutie? I a photo of my three kiddos feet before we left for school. I don't know why, but I love this picture!

Rule of Thirds

I spotted this flower while walking my first grader to school this week. I don't even know what it is, just that it grows on a tree and I thought it was pretty.

Side Profile

Lately this little hummingbird has been hanging around our back porch. He often lands on my clothesline and sits for a while. I caught this side profile of him through my kitchen window.

Small

I bought these itty bitty beads as a gift for my boys to play with while Mommy and Daddy are in San Francisco for our anniversary trip. They are called perler beads. You put them on a pegboard and then use an iron to melt them together. My boys LOVE them already.

Motion

Today my husband and I arrived in San Francisco. We decided to visit the Golden Gate bridge, and while there I caught a lot of sailboats in motion. I haven't really looked at all my pictures, I just randomly picked this one to use for this prompt. See the wake the sailboat is making? You can tell it's in motion, right?

I took tons of pictures at the Golden Gate bridge, and this evening we walked through Chinatown. I can already tell this trip is going to be awesome! This is my first time in San Francisco and I'll be here all week! So tell me, what else do you think I should make sure to see while I'm here?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {8.19.12}

Forest

Is this tree part of a forest? You will probably never know because I'm not telling. What I will tell you is that if you look closely (or click to enlarge) you can see that the bokeh in this picture is heart-shaped. I was having fun playing with my bokeh disks this afternoon.

Morning Light

One morning this week I went outside to take a picture of the sun as it peeked over the mountains. Then on my way home I spotted this sunflower reaching for the morning light. Turns out that this is the picture that I liked best, and I figure it works since it was taken in the morning light.

Touch

On my way home from my morning walk, I also spotted a very large patch of thistles. I started taking pictures when a bee graciously landed so I could take his picture. I do not recommend that you touch the thistles OR the bee. Ouch!

Newspaper

We don't really read the newspaper around here very often, but I do get the grocery ads. When you have kids, sometimes the newspaper gets recycled for other purposes. Here is Jonah, sporting a newspaper hat.

Coffee or Tea

No thanks! I don't drink coffee or tea. I actually don't drink alcohol either! So instead you get my drink of choice; diet coke with lime.

Going Back in Time

This week we all went to visit the North American Museum of Ancient Life, which we just call the dinosaur museum. It wasn't until later that I realized that most of my pics from that day would work for this promt! They have tons of interesting exhibits and fossils. I loved this photo of Jonah looking at a diorama of what the earth might have looked like while the dinosaurs were alive.

Something Just for Me

After I thought about it for a while, I realized that my "something" that is just for me is photography. I love to take pictures, especially of my three beautiful children. I am not a professional and have never taken photography classes, but I love that my photography has improved over the years and I keep learning!

Best Part of my Day

My favorite part of the day is in the evening when things start to wind down. I love my kids and our fun, busy days together, but I LOVE it when I put the kids in bed and get to spend time alone with Honey Daddy. I took this picture of sunset on my iPhone on one of those rare occasions that I was going out alone with my Honey.

Night and Day

Night at home. Day on the Great Salt Lake. I love photographing the moon! I just wish I had a longer zoom lens so I could get an even better picture! I had to wait for some high, thin clouds to clear out before I could get a good shot of the full moon last night.

The second picture is from our day trip to Antelope Island to see the Great Salt Lake. I almost regretting lugging that umbrella all the way down to the shore, but I think the picture is worth it!

Look Up

While visiting Antelope Island, they had some binoculars at Bison point that you could use to view the bison on the plain below. I caught this picture of Eli using the binoculars to look up! Not only will he not find any buffalo that way, the really funny thing is that he is looking in the wrong end!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {7•29•12}

Paint

Earlier this week I let my boys have a "paint party". I covered the floor with an old sheet and they each got a large sheet of butcher paper to paint however they wanted (thank heaven for washable paint!). For some reason I was drawn to this portion of Eli's drawing.

Green

While scoping out a photo location I spotted these leafy bushes. I loved the shape, and after several photos I got one that I really love.

Eyelashes

All three of my kids have long, gorgeous eyelashes so I wasn't really sure whose picture I would end up using for this prompt. But this picture was the winner! Love the look of my baby girl's wet eyelashes while she was taking a bath.

Shapes

You are probably asking yourself, "what does this picture have to do with shapes?". To be honest, I really don't know! I took this picture on the last day of swimming lessons with my iPhone and instantly fell in love. It portrays my son Eli's enthusiastic, go-all-out character perfectly. I took pictures of my daughter's shape-sorter toy, but can't bring myself to post them instead of this picture. Let's make it work, shall we? If you look closely there are a lot of shapes in the picture! Oval goggles, rectangular windows, scull and crossbones, trapezoidal sun shades, round clock, blue mushroom, square bricks...

Clouds

We have not had a lot of rain this week, but there have been plenty of clouds rolling through. I took lots of cloud pics with my iPhone, but this is the one that I loved the most!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {7•15•12}

Water

This was my favorite water feature at the splash pad we visited this week. Water collects in the buckets and then is dumped out all at once. The buckets can also be rotated around at the base, which the kids love!

Petal

We have rose bushes in our front yard, and I love the ones with the multicolored petals. I thought this yellow and pink bud was especially beautiful.

Fresh

Our garden is bursting with fresh vegetables! Here are some of the zucchini and summer squash that we picked this morning. 

Eight

I actually live in the 800's section of my street. So by the time I walked around and took pictures of various number eights, I figured I should just make a collage of eight eights!

Calm

I am not a professional photographer by any means, but I really do enjoy taking pictures! Some day I would really like to take a class, but in the meantime I practice by taking portraits of my kids.  The hardest part for me is to remain calm when my kids are uncooperative (especially the little ones)! Luckily Jonah is usually a calm and helpful photo subject.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {7•8•12}

This week really got away from me! I meant to post a few times, but never made it. At least I got my scavenger hunt done.

Patriotic

Every year for the Fourth of July we get up early and to go the Balloon Fest, which is part of Provo City's Freedom Festival. This year I made sure to get a picture of the American flag balloon because I knew it would be perfect for this prompt.

You also get a fireworks picture because our Independence Day always includes watching the city's fireworks display.

View from Above

Both of these pictures may be a bit of a stretch, but oh well! The first picture is the sun rising on our way to the Balloon Fest. I think this picture is heavenly, so you could say it is a view from above.

In the second picture, the hot air balloons definitely get a view from above! I would love to take a ride in one so I could experience floating in the sky and take in the view!

Mosaic

Some of my favorite hot air balloons were the ones that looked like they were made up from lots of different swatches of fabrics- kind of like a mosaic.

Something Tiny

See! I did take pictures of something besides hot air balloons. We have these tiny mushrooms that appear randomly in our back yard. I was lucky to find a few, since I waited until after Honey Daddy mowed the lawn to take this picture.

Vibrant

You have to agree that hot air balloons are definitely vibrant! Some of the balloons come back each year, but there are always some fun new ones to see. I love all the colors and think the hot air balloons are beautiful!
