Mother's Day and Mammograms

What a fun and busy weekend!

We had a double header this weekend-- Mother's Day and my son's birthday! I thought it was awesome that Jonah had his sixth birthday on Mother's Day, since he was my first baby.

We had a monster of a birthday party, but I will post more on Jonah's birthday later. For now I wanted to update you on my mammogram. I did not mean to leave you in suspense or anything, I have just been so busy that I haven't managed time to post!

So at 35 years old, I went in for my first mammogram at the recommendation of my OB. They found a small lump that they thought I should get checked out. After my initial panic attack at the thought of getting a mammogram and possibly having cancer, I managed to remain surprisingly calm the remainder of the week.

On the day of my mammogram I was a bit nervous, having heard all the cold-and-painful-squishing horror stories. I have to say that it wasn't really that bad. It was awkward and uncomfortable, but I would not call it painful.

The nurses were very kind, and I have to say that the scariest part was probably the machine. It looked a little intimidating.

I am happy to say that the procedure was quick and so were the results! My mammogram and ultrasound were completely clear. They could not even find a cyst! The doctor said that he does not need to see me again until I am 40! I was so happy that I practically ran out the door.

I am so thankful that I got a clean bill of health! It made Mother's Day with my children that much sweeter for me... to know I will continue to be there for them.

My grandmother died of breast cancer before she was 50 years old. I was very young when she died and barely remember her. I did not want that for my baby girl or my two boys. I am so grateful for the medical technology that is currently available to give me the peace of mind to know that all is well.

Next time I won't be nervous for my mammogram and I plan to go faithfully every year after 40. It is definitely worth it because then I can know for sure that I will continue to be there for my family.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

  1. Love those pics!

So glad to hear that your mammogram went well! I'm finally feeling 90% healed after my recent lump removal. It was benign, but with abnormal cells. I'll have to undergo yearly mammograms from here on out, but I could care less. Whatever it takes to be cancer-free!

Hope you're doing well. Haven't been by in a while. :(

  3. So glad you had a wonderful monster party and your mammogram was clear. With a history of breast cancer in your family, you should request your OB to refer you for an annual mammogram just as a precaution. Five years is a long time to wait for another exam. Stay safe and healthy, mama! xox

  8. I am so glad you talked about this. I now need to get mine done & I am really not looking forward to it. Like you- I have a family history & with all the things I have seen lately, it freaks me out. I know that knowing is better than not knowing- but still. I'm so glad that everything came back great & that was probably the best Mother's Day gift ever. :)
