Scavenger Hunt Sunday #11

Macro
I found this little dandelion fluff in my neighbor's yard. It is getting below freezing here at night, so there aren't many left. I am glad I found this one because it makes a nice macro!

Found Texture

I found an old vacant home not far from our house that had the greatest colors and textures! I used the doors of the garage and the house for pictures of my kids in their applique ghost shirts. I will probably be returning to this location for pictures again because I LOVE it!

Home
I grew up in the mountains of Wyoming and Idaho. I am currently blessed to call the mountains of Utah my home (specifically Mount Timpanogos). No matter where I go, the mountains will always be "home" to me.

Cover
The leaves are finally dropping from the trees, so I went on a walk and took a picture of this lawn covered with maple leaves.

The Tree

I was so excited when I saw this prompt because I have TONS of tree pictures! Every day for the past month and a half I have been taking a picture of the same tree as we drive home from Kindergarten. I wanted to be able to show the kids how the tree has changed over time. So the first picture is the tree in September, and the second picture is the tree just yesterday.

Shades of Autumn: RED

The trees are finally changing colors in our valley, so I have managed to find some red around. It is amazing to me how the red leaves can range from almost pink to nearly purple.

I took some darling pictures of my baby girl in her knitted strawberry hat, so I had to include those as well since her hat IS red.

I had tons more adorable pictures of her in this hat, but I will leave it at that!

My Boo-tiful Ghosts

I made the cutest applique ghost shirts for my kids! They are not part of their Halloween costumes, they are just for fun. So of course I had to take the kids and take some pictures! These are their scary ghost faces...

I think they are more cute than they are scary. Especially little Miss Aubrey!

I made the white tutu for her, and it was the first one I have even done! I think it turned out well and will fit her for a long time. I would use this for her Halloween costume, but I bought a cute ladybug costume already. Oh well!

My boys have enjoyed wearing wearing their shirts to Kindergarten and Preschool. As a matter of fact, they are going to wear them twice this week because I have had time to wash them!

I have the cutest little ghosties ever!

Painted Acorn and Pinecone Apothecaries

Do you remember all those beautiful acorns that my sons and I collected?

I had an enormous pile of acorns and I was determined to use them in my Fall decor. After some deliberation, I decided that I liked the woodsy look of the nuts but the caps of the acorns could use a little pizazz.

First I tried spray glue and glitter, but it looked a little too clumpy. So I decided to go with spray paint and glitter. I ended up using a bronze glitter spray, white paint, and gold metallic spray paint.

I took the caps off the acorns, sprayed them, and then hot glued them back onto the nuts. I loved the way the acorns turned out! The bronze spray glitter gave the acorns a natural and sparkly look that I really love.

The gold caps look awesome on the acorns!

The white paint that my husband had on hand also looked really nice with the brown of the acorn nuts.

I also painted some pinecones and put them in my apothecary jars with the acorns. I think they really add a little something extra. I found some dark pinecones that are almost black and since they were a nice color already, I paired with the bronze pinecones.

I love the way my apothecaries turned out!

I think they really add a natural, woodsy look to my fall decor.

So what do you think of my acorn apothecaries?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday (#10)

Words
I visited my sister in Logan for the weekend and on the way I had to stop and take a picture of the words on this barn as the sun was setting. I don't know what "The Woman's Tonic" actually is, but I think I need some!

Fly

Usually I am not happy when I find flies in the house, but when I saw this guy creeping around on my bathroom mirror I knew he would be perfect for this prompt (duh)! So I got out my macro filters and got some pretty cool shots!

Orange

I took so many fun orange pictures this week that I had a hard time choosing one... so you get two. Here are some orange berries from a pyracantha bush, and some beautiful light orange flowers from my neighbor's yard.

Under
My husband brought me pumpkins from our neighbor that I thought were normal until he showed me what was underneath them! Holy cow! What on earth are they growing under there? One of them looks like it was trying to grow four legs and walk off! Don't they look kind of like alien spaceships?

Always Look on the Bright Side
This is one of the very first pictures that I took with my macro filters. I didn't quite know what I was doing, so I was just fiddling around (good old trial and error).  One of the best thing about digital cameras is that it gives amateurs like me the freedom to take hundreds of photos (learning all the while), knowing that eventually I will get that one shot that makes me happy.

Orange Crush

I think orange is one of the those colors that you either love... or really don't. I think orange is a bright and cheerful color! I especially love it paired with pink on baby clothes (though I have no pictures of my baby girl for this post, sorry!).

The leaves in our neck of the woods are not orange yet, so I had to look around to find some orange. There are actually quite a few bright patches of orange around, due to the orange berries on pyracantha bushes. I think they are gorgeous!

Of course I took a pumpkin shot...

and some beautiful light orange flowers I found in my neighbor's yard.

Last but not least, would you believe that part of my fence is actually orange?

Not because I love orange so much.... but because the previous owners stained it that color and we haven't gotten around to painting over it or replacing the fence!
