Friday morning I left with the boys and headed up to Star Valley, Wyoming. My mom recently had double knee replacement surgery and she needed a little help while she recovered. So we left Honey Daddy at home, and the boys and I hit the road.
The drive took about 4 hours, and the boys did surprisingly well. Especially since I couldn't pay that much attention to them. One of my friends loaned me a DVD player, which Jonah absolutely loved. I loved it too because at least it kept one of my boys occupied (ie. not whining). Eli was a bit more bored and impatient with the whole trip, but what can you expect from a one year old?
Luckily the boys did a little of this during the drive too:
Wyoming was great! The boys loved hanging out with Grandpa and Grandma, and I kept pretty busy. I cooked meals, vacuumed, cleaned, did laundry, and tried to keep my boys out of trouble. My mom is doing amazingly well, and I am really proud of her. I also hope I never need to have my knees replaced because it is no fun at all!
The worst part of this afternoon was getting ready to leave. I had to pack up the car, which is a job Honey Daddy usually takes care of. He is much better at fitting everything back into the car!
The boys and I survived the drive home, although we did have to stop once on the side of the road for an emergency potty break. At least it is not too much of a problem with boys!
I don't plan on doing a solo road trip with the boys for a while! I really missed having adult companionship in the car... not to mention another pair of hands. It is great to be home! I took lots of great pics in Wyoming, and I'll post those a bit later after I've had time to unpack, etc.
(Speaking of home, how do you like my new blog look? Cute, huh? - Thanks sis!)
You are a sweet daughter and a brave mom to attempt a four hour car ride without reinforcements. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
It sounds like you had fun though!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are home safe and sound! Hope the trip was a tad bit enjoyable and relaxing at the same time. Hope your mom recoups well.

Glad to hear your mom is doing well.
ReplyDeleteI have taken many road trips alone with my kids. I definitely wouldn't have entertained the idea when they were little...oh laws no! But it's still a bit of a challenge at their current age. Trying to convince them they don't need to play their DS the entire three hours...or that stopping for something to drink isn't a good idea when I am not entirely sure where the next rest stop is...or that the back seat is big enough for the TWO OF YOU TO STOP TOUCHING EACH OTHER!!!
Whoa...what happened?
Your new blog look is very cute. And your boys sleeping on the trip are easily twice as cute.
ReplyDeleteOh I love Star Valley! I have a good friend who married the kid next door (almost) and raised her family there.
ReplyDeleteYour boys look like they enjoyed the trip! Thank goodness for friends with DVD players!
Those photos are absolutely precious. :o)
ReplyDeleteThat takes courage to go on a trip alone with two younge boys!
ReplyDeleteI took Buddy three hours west a few months ago, stayed for a few days, and then came back home, picked up Hubby, and continued another two hours east. That was a lot of driving, but he was still younge enough that he slept most if the way, and there was only one of him!
the picture of the boys are so cute. My daughter often travels with her daughter by herself but I am afraid that if she had twins she would stay home alot you have to be strong and a great mommy to do it by yourself
ReplyDeleteMy parents live 3 hours away and road trips to Grandma & pa's house are always. . .interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh and love the look of your blog!
Love the new look, very cute!
ReplyDeleteAnd road trips by yourself are not fun. Can't wait to see the pictures.
You are one brave mom. I don't know what I would do without the tv/dvd player on road trips! Cute picture!
ReplyDeleteYou're a brave woman! But it sounds like y'all did pretty well. I love the sleeping in the car pics! : )
ReplyDeleteGreat blog look! So glad you all made it home safely :)
ReplyDeleteI was looking for you while we were around Afton and Grover this past weekend. Too bad we were both there under stressful circumstances or we could have had a little bloggie meeting or something. :)
ReplyDeleteI have not yet ventured toward a long trip anywhere with my son because I'm so worried about how bored he'd be. he wants to "get out!" after a 10 minute drive, let alone a longer one!
ReplyDeleteLove the pics! My family loves road trips and I've done plenty without the hubby. After the first one, they're not so daunting!
