When Ice Looks Nice

Undoubtedly my neighbors think I am a little crazy. This afternoon I was out in my front yard, raking the snow around. I could almost feel the questions flying through the air in my general direction.

What is she doing?
Is she raking... the snow? Why?
Is it some kind of snow Zen garden?

Nope. If you must know I was raking the mounds of snow onto the dry spots on my lawn so that all the snow would melt off my lawn more quickly. It has actually been pretty decent the past few days and my snow is starting to melt. Hooray!

So maybe I am a little crazy. Either that or extremely ready for Spring.

There is one thing that I will miss once we finally stay above freezing for more than a few days at a time... the HUGE ice castle not far from our house. The boys want me to drive by it every time we go anywhere in the car.

Can you blame them?
Standing near the base, looking way up.

Check out the intricate shapes.

Watch your step!

They light up the ice castle at night, so I had to drive by on my way home from work one night to snap a picture. Pretty, huh?

To give you some idea of the size of this thing, these smaller columns are taller than I am! The entire castle is actually taller than the creator's house!

So although we will not miss winter or the snow, I think my boys will miss watching the ice castle and how it grows and changes.

  2. Oh wow! That is stunning!! I am seriously impressed. I would definitely miss seeing that daily once Spring arrives.

And maybe raking snow is a little crazy, but everyone has a little crazy in them. It's what makes the world go round lol.

  4. I know some will call me crazy (I might have called myself crazy if I had seen this day before yesterday when I was at the beach in February!), but I miss Utah winters.

    That ice IS nice.

I've never raked snow, but I have stood in the street trying to break up the ice so that the road will melt and I will no longer have to park on it..... people are not kind and drive by WAY too fast and splash ya!

  11. Cool pictures! There was a house not to far from us that made a big mound of snow and then put a sign on it counting how many days the mound lasted. It was funny driving by and seeing the mound get smaller and smaller (and the numbers of days bigger and bigger) as the ice began to melt.

I totally rake the snow too once it gets to the point where there are bare patches all over the place. I'm just SO stinkin' ready by then for ALL OF IT to be GONE!!!

  17. Wow! That is really cool! I've never seen anything quite like that! I love that some people are able to take "negative" things like cold, snow, ice and turn them into something beautiful like this!

And I think that is a great idea to rake the snow! : )

  22. I love that ice castle.

I like the idea of a Zen ice garden. I think it's good to keep the neighbors on their toes.

  23. Oh my goodness! I would probably think you were crazy too for raking the snow but since you explained why, that is a great idea! The ice castle is amazing!! Where do you live? A man around here used to do stuff like that with ice or snow and they were beautiful. They would always put them on the local news so he would have so much traffic by his house! Craziness I tell you!!
