My Bryce Canyon Birthday

Ok, I admit it! I have been having way too much fun lately to bother with posting on my blog!

Actually, the truth is that I just got busy with my young family. But then this weekend I was definitely having too much fun to post on my blog. You see, I got to go to Bryce Canyon for my birthday.

About a month ago I told my husband that we should go on one last trip before the cold weather arrived, and wouldn't my birthday weekend be perfect? I was a little surprised when he actually agreed with me and we started making plans. We invited my parents and they got a camping trailer just in time for the trip, so we got to go even though the weather was a little colder than we wanted.

We had so much fun walking the trails and checking out all the gorgeous scenery. When we visited Bryce Canyon two years ago, my kids were too small to do much more that check out a few viewpoints. This year we did much more...

The boys went to the visitor center and decided to work on getting their Junior Ranger badge. They also had a program for the whole family to earn a pin for "hiking the hoodoos". So we decided to give it a try. We went on a couple of hikes, trying to get pictures of ourselves at three benchmarks.

It was so awesome to take the Navajo Loop trail down to the bottom of the canyon and hike amongst the pillars of rock. We weren't sure how the kids would do, but they did surprisingly well!

There definitely weren't many kids their ages out on the trail, but I think they had fun. We managed to get in our three benchmarks and earned our pin, even miss Aubrey. It was so much fun! Apparently it was also exhausting.

I also thought it would be fun to recreate our family pictures from two years ago. So we went back out to Bryce Point just as the sun set and managed this fabulous photo.

What a great memento of our vacation! My boys said that this was "the best trip ever", and I have to agree. I am so thankful my parents could come and help make our trip possible. Plus with them behind the camera, the kids couldn't help but smile!

  2. My parents LOVE Bryce Canyon -- Utah, in general, actually. They visit every couple of years and the standing joke is, no matter where they're planning a roadtrip, it will be via Utah! :)

Beautiful pictures, as always. Looks like an incredible way to spend a birthday!!
