Winter Wonderland

It is SO cold here! I know the groundhog promised an early spring, but it definitely has not arrived yet! We were below freezing again this morning and a light snow was gently drifting down. So I grabbed my camera and went out to try to catch a snowflake.

By the time I finished taking pictures my fingertips were bright red, but I definitely think that these pictures were worth it! I love how the snow looked fluffy, but up close you can see the interlacing of all the little ice crystals.

My neighbors were probably wondering what was so fascinating about my recycle bin, but by now they are probably used to me wandering around with my camera in hand taking pictures of random stuff.

I love how intricate, detailed and delicate the snowflakes are. It almost made the freezing temperatures worthwhile since the little ice crystals stayed frozen long enough for me to take snap some pictures.

Winter is not my favorite time of year, but there is beauty to be found in the frozen stillness. This leaf caught my attention, since it was the only one on the surface of the snow. It appears to be the last leaf from our apricot tree, which is now completely bare.

Winter will soon be leaving, and I welcome the return of spring. The earth is slumbering, waiting for the right time to reawaken. When it does there will be a flurry of sound, color and noise (very similar to when my 4 year old wakes up from a nap!).

I will be waiting for Spring with my camera in hand. I can almost feel the warmth. I am SO ready! How about you?

  1. Wow! I am trying to get individual flakes captured! You'd think I could, there is enough out there right now!

  2. I have never seen an individual snow flake. Guessing it's too wet in our area. Great captures.

  3. Holy cow! Those are incredible close up shots of snowflakes! It's easy to forget that that white fluffy mess is really a mountain of tiny individual, beautiful snow flakes.
