Adventures of the Snowman Nativity-
The Glowing Gift

You may recall that a few years ago I received a quirky little snowman nativity set as a gift. I was in the search for my "perfect" nativity and when one of my friends heard of my quest, she gave me this set as a gift. Why she thought they were THE ONE for me, I'll never know...

Last year in an effort to make Christmas a little less "Look, But Don't Touch!" for Jonah, I told him that my other nativities were only for looking at, but he could play with this one. I put it on our entryway table where he could reach it and play with the figures.

Those little snowpeople had lots of adventures last year! So this year I continued the tradition, except now I have two little boys to contribute to the fun.

It wasn't long after the Nativity was set up that things started happening.

First the snowpeople all took a voyage and visited the floor, couches, piano, floor and nearly every other part of the living room. So we had to explain to Eli the rule that the snowpeople stay on the table. You can play with them, but they don't leave!

Apparently Jonah later decided that I set up the nativity all wrong! Obviously little baby Jesus needs to be sheltered under the stable, not in front of it! Can you spot baby Jesus' sleigh under the roof?

So little snowbaby Jesus is safely nestled under the roof, while all the adults watch over him. Isn't that sweet?

But wait... what's going on it the back there? Can you see it?

Mary, a sheep, and one of the wise men have forsaken the baby Jesus. They have gone to worship a large glowing present! I seems they have fallen prey to the commercialism of Christmas! Oh Mary, say it isn't so!

The other fun thing is that I have caught Jonah "flying" the snowbaby Jesus' sled all over the living room. Jesus walked on water, so he could probably have flown if he wanted... don't you think? :o)

  1. OH that is too cute. I LOVE that Nativity and the fact that it is safe for kids to play with. I think your friend was right on inher choice. This one allows the kids to relate and have attention drawn to it ( after all it's snowmen) and this opens the door for a talk about the REAL Jesus and Nativity... How cute is that

  6. Very cute narrative! How sad for the mother of Christ to turn away from her own Son ~ and so soon after His birth, too!!!

I love that Nativity set! I've been searching for YEARS for a set that doesn't necessarily look like a play set, but that the girls could be free to play with.

  8. What a wonderful idea to have a nativity set that children can play with. It's as it should be, I think.

And it's a very cute set, too!

  9. How fun for your boys! (and you) I've always had a nativity that the children could play with. They seem to love it.

  10. I personally think that having a Nativity set accessible to children is a very important part of teaching them about Christmas. It opens so many avenues for talking with them about the important (and oft forgotten) parts of Christmas.

  12. My girls, too, are fascinated with the nativity. It's nice to see them engaging so tangibly with the story of Christmas. Goodness, how metaphoric is that photo in front of the glowing package? A good reminder about shifting our priorities back to the true spirit of season :)

  13. ROTFL oh that's so funny. What a fun idea, though, to have a nativity scene for your boys to play with! This is me and my husband's first Christmas together and we've been on the lookout for the perfect nativity scene, too. My mom gave us a nativity scene that a friend had sent her and it's this ridiculously cheesy looking nativity scene from the 50s. We love it. It's not our perfect nativity scene, but it's perfect for right now :)

  14. I came across your blog through a search I am doing. I have been looking for one just like this one. Do you know where it was purchased or the maker of the set?
