Winter Winds

The wind is HOWLING outside this evening! It is blowing so hard that our neighbor's trash can blew across the street to rest in the gutter in front of our house. It isn't just the wind either... the skies are heavy and wet, and the temperature oustide is dropping. We are sure to get a winter storm overnight and may even have snow in the morning.

Typically I am not a big fan of cold weather and snow. I like to stay warm and bundled up inside. However, in the past year my newly found love for photography has helped me to see the beauty of all the seasons. Even the approaching winter.

Instead of moaning and groaning about the cold, ice and snow (which I still do a little), I find myself looking at the world with new eyes. I look at things a little more closely and am amazed at the beauty I see.

Isn't is amazing how looking through the lens can completely change your perspective?

  1. I also find myself appreciating the beauty around me even more when I have a camera along. :)

  2. A quick trip in the cold to catch the wonderful crystals of winter, then back in the warm house to contemplate your photos. Seems a nice trade to me.

I have a book titled "The Zen of Seeing" by Frederick Frank. It's about seeing and drawing but it echoes what you've said. When you look through the lens and concentrate, you truly see.

  7. It really is amazing! I discovered two winters ago that maybe I don't actually hate it as much as I've always thought I did ~ and it was because I had my camera with me a little more often. Amazing how when one consciously seeks beauty how much can actually be found!

  12. Nice to see the patterns in nature, especially when you look closely at something that most would just ignore.
