You have heard the phrase "senior moment", haven't you? When you forget to do something, or can't remember a name, or you mind just goes blank for a moment-- then you can laugh it off and say you have had a senior moment.
What I don't like about that phrase is that it implies that I am forgetting things because I am getting old. I may be over 30, but I'm definitely not old! I know I have a sharp mind, but the constant distractions that come with taking care of kids divert me from my train of thought or what I was doing. That's when I forget things... so I think I they should be called "mommy moments" instead!
You know what I'm talking about, don't you?
You go to empty the dishwasher only to find that it is still full of dirty dishes with the soap still sitting in it. Obviously you were going to start it, but then got distracted- that's a mommy moment!
How about when you go to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer, only to find that the clothes are sitting in a washer full of water with the lid wide open.
Or you lay down in bed at night only to realize that the washer is full of wet clothes that you didn't ever manage to get into the dryer.
So I had another mommy moment today. Here's the story:
I had way too much to eat over the weekend. We went out to dinner for my birthday. I had a night out with the girls. We went to a mission reunion for my husband. At all of these events they had tons of yummy, delicious, fattening food!
So I weighed myself this morning and freaked out when I found I had gained about 5 pounds. I have worked hard to get where I am and I don't want the weight to sneak back on. So after breakfast (and starting the dishwasher and starting a load of laundry) I decided to go for a bike ride and take the boys out in the trailer.
I put on my cold weather cycling gear, dressed the boys warmly and put them in the trailer. I had my heart rate monitor on and took my cycling GPS with me because I wanted to know how many calories I burned while I was out.
It was a good workout, hauling 60 pounds of kids plus the trailer behind me. I was feeling good!
Then I got home and pulled the GPS out of my pocket to check on my stats and see how well I did. Would you believe I put the heart rate monitor on, brought my GPS with me, and even turned it on! Yet somehow I forgot to press the start button! *sigh*
Oh well- chalk it up to another mommy moment! Now I'm off to put the dishes away and put the laundry in the dryer. At least I have it somewhat together today, right?!
I'm extremely impressed with you even though you forgot to turn it on. That does sound like quite a workout! Ah yes, I've been having "mommy" moments for the last 25 years. And now that I'm 50 and my kids are older, I guess I HAVE to start calling them "senior" moments. Ugh!!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday! Sounds like it was fun. Thanks for stopping by my blog and entering my giveaway. Good luck!
Oh yeah. I have my fair share of mommy moments. Like a few days ago, fighting the flu but feeling a bit better about midday. I decided to do some laundry. Well the clothes stayed in the soapy water for 2 more days. Thank God for 1 1/2 cups of vinegar that took the smell out. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI like to call it either 'dummy Mummy' or 'baby brain.'
ReplyDeleteBut I totally know where you're coming form. The same thing happens to me ALL THE TIME!
You probably just gained water weight!! I bet you'll be back on track by Friday! Plus, calories don't count on your bday :)

Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to call it Mom brain. It fits to mom's of all ages.
Oh boy, do I ever have these moments. The problem is, they still occur even when my daughter is not around. What does that say? :)
ReplyDeleteat least the calories still burned! that would be awful if they didn't? Those senior moments freak me out!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I'm 24 so definitely don't have senior moments but the mommy moments are a plenty!!! :) Like putting my hair brush in the toothbrush drawer or opening the trash to find a perfectly good bib sitting on top, lol!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm most definitely addicted to giveaways :D LoL. Congrats on your wins, I've entered for several childrens books but never seem to win those ones! :)
I have more Mommy Moments in one day than I care to admit to. lol! I am quite certain something happens to our brains once our child makes their exit. :)
