We had the most beautiful day on Saturday. The sun was shining and it was actually over 50 degrees! Needless to say, we spent most of the day outdoors.
It may be sunny, but the ground outside is still a bit soggy. So we just planned to put shoes on the boys and let them both walk around outside.
We didn't realize that this would NOT be acceptable to little Eli.
In the past month Eli has learned to walk. Since it was still winter, he learned inside on the carpet... most of the time with little socks on his feet.
Saturday while I was out, Honey Daddy attempted to put a little pair of sandal-type shoes on over Eli's socks so he could walk around outside. Apparently Eli started wailing as soon as they were on his feet!
Honey Daddy even tried putting the shoes on a little while later when Eli was in his high chair, and even though he couldn't see them Eli started to cry. Apparently shoes are scary!
I tried to put the shoes on him again today, after we let him "play" with them and get familiar with them this weekend. The picture above was the result! He still doesn't like the shoes.
The poor little guy stopped crying after a minute or so, but he froze in place. I tried to hold his hands and guide him forward, but he was as stiff as a board. There was no way he was moving an inch with those shoes on!
I know wearing sandals with socks on is a fashion faux pas, but they're not really THAT bad... are they buddy?
How cute!! Poor little guy. It took us forever to get Tommy to wear shoes - at least agreeably - I think what helped us was letting him help us pick out a pair for him.
ReplyDeleteConnie isn't a fan of sandals either. Bina on the other hand, loves shoes.
ReplyDeleteJust be patient it'll pass.
Poor little man, he'll get used to the idea. My youngest was the same way. He hated anything on his feet with a passion. Then came they short lived phase where he always wanted shoes on. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute!!
THAT is hilarious!! Time to let him pick out his own new cool pair
ReplyDeleteLook at that face! He really doesn't like 'em does he? HA! I think they'll all this way at first. I remember my little guy protesting shoes at first too!
ReplyDeleteI know I shouldn't laugh at his crying face, but I can't help it, poor guy! He'll get used to it eventually. Here's the good news - summer's right around the corner and he can go barefoot outside! Have you tried the Robeez? Our son loved them. Oh, and by the way, have you ever lived in Seattle? Socks with sandals is a very popular look her. Extra style points if you wear wool socks and shorts with your sandals!
ReplyDeleteYour lil guy is too cute! My 3.5 year old was the SAME way with shoes. Then I bought him crocs and MADE him wear them, and now that's the only shoe he'll wear.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable child!!!!! Ya, take the socks off. Let his toesies be free!! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy Wordful is about the 'twin towers' here in our city. Stop by if you can. I'd love your company.
isn't it funny how they react to wearing shoes the first few times. It will get better when he realizes he can walk outside when he has them on
ReplyDeleteNow that is a priceless memory! LOL
ReplyDeleteHe looks so sad! I am sure he will get used to his shoes...eventually ;)
ReplyDeleteMy son was the SAME WAY. When se started walking it was November, so come spring he had been walking a while and freaked out about walking on the grass or in shoes. He would look just like your little guy and cry and cry.
I have fought the shoe battle so many times! Now, unless we are going into a place that requires shoes, I just don't even bother:)
ReplyDeleteToo cute!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the shoes.
ReplyDeleteKids are so funny sometimes.
Awww poor guy. That is just too funny.
ReplyDeleteWe were told when we bought Trevor sandals, that he needed to wear socks with them for at least the first week to break them in and avoid getting blisters.
ReplyDeleteWe started him on regular shoes though...maybe the sandals just feel weird???
I don't like shoes either. And never have! I don't blame him. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Poor little fella!
ReplyDeleteI would cry too if you made me wear socks with sandals. Haha.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny.
I love his little scrunched up face! I think we all feel that way sometimes about shoes, especially tight, high heeled ones, ick!
ReplyDeleteThat poor little face!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that picture is priceless!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Too funny! Gonna be a shoeless kid I guess!
ReplyDeleteThat pictures is really cute!
So funny!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Too funny.
ReplyDeleteoh the injustice! love that look on his face
ReplyDeleteAwww! Poor little thing! Well, on the bright side, maybe he'll never wear black socks and sandals when he retires! ;)
ReplyDeletelol!!! I LOVE his sad little face. Shoes really aren't needed are they mommy. lol!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That little face says it all!
ReplyDeleteLOL. My youngest is very picky about what he wears. In fact, it's hard to convince him to wear the clothes form his older siblings. He's got three older brothers and a sister.
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute!
That is how both of my kids were the first time I tried to get them to walk barefoot on grass!
ReplyDeleteHe is a doll!
james did that exact same thing last summer and then all of a sudden he decided that he liked them.
ReplyDeleteSo confining ;D
ReplyDeleteHis face says it all! Too cute!
