Hot for the Holidays Finale

This week is the last week of Hot for the Holidays and I am proud to say that I have lost a total of 10.5 pounds since September! It also got me thinking...

Weight loss is a journey. Those of us who are on the path know that it is a lot of hard work. It takes dedication, strength and determination.

I have never really been a skinny person. I was pretty average as a child, but by the time I graduated high school I was definitely overweight. I almost never exercised, I ate what I wanted, and I wore a size 24 pants. Needless to say, ever since then I have been trying to lose weight.

Christy O. asked us to post a photo of ourselves, giving the before and after of our weightloss. Instead of showing you the difference 10 pounds makes, I thought I would go one better. Here is a picture of me from over ten years ago.

In case you are wondering, this is before I lost approximately 50 pounds, got braces, and learned to pluck my eyebrows. I was almost embarrassed to post this photo. I don't like to remember what I used to look like (and I certainly don't want to put images like this in the minds of those who never knew me when I was big), but it just goes to show you how far I have come.

Here is a photo of me from this summer (in cycling knickers even!)

This summer my husband and I picked up cycling as a hobby. We did a few tours together and I have cycled 67 miles in one day! We are planning on going on another tour at the end of December... it's 100 miles! Can you believe it?!

I now cycle about 4 days a week. I eat healthier, and I've had two babies. I can honestly tell you that even pregnant I have never again gotten back to my high school weight. Isn't that awesome?!

I now wear 14/16 size pants and am on my way to size 10. That's the goal! This week I lost 1/2 pound, but I'll take it. Every little bit helps.

So you CAN lose weight. It might take a long time and it may be a daily struggle to keep it off, but in the end it's worth it. I feel SO much better now than I ever did in high school.

On to my report on the Biggest Loser. All I have to say is that I am not at all surprised by this week's results. I was a little disapointed by the makeovers because they didn't seem to be that impressive to me. I thought Michelle looked great, and I loved Renee's hair... but the other changes didn't seem very drastic at all. I have to admit that the contestants look MUCH better now than they did when they started. But then again, losing 50+ pounds will do that to you! (see the above photos?!)

I wasn't surprised that Renee got kicked off this week. I was pretty sure that if any of the former black team ended up below the line then they would be kicked off. I was disappointed that Vicki wasn't smart enough to kick off Ed, but I can't say I was surprised. What did you think?

  1. Congratulations on the 10.5 pounds since Sept...and congratulations on the weight loss overall (since HS)...you look great!

Biking...what a great way to spend more time with Hubby. I wish I trusted myself more on a bike, I'd try a Triathlon or two. But I'll just stick with running. ;-)

Best wishes as you continue on your way to achieve a size 10...me, too. ;-) Blessings.

  2. You look great! Congrats on the overall loss & the challenge loss. That is so awesome! I wish I would've done better, but Oh well. I am hoping she does another challenge! I knew with Biggest Loser that Renee or Michelle would go home if they fell below the yellow line, so it wasn't a very eventful show for me this week. I still do not want any of the blue team to win the whole thing. That will be disappointing if that happens!

  4. You are looking GOOD girl!!! And you are more than on your way, you are almost there! Great job!

Oh, and I was not impressed by the makeovers either. This season has been stressful for me - they sooooo should have voted off Vicki a long time ago - her and Heba. Don't like either one of them. They make the show too much of a drama instead of the inspiration that it should be! And that stinks!
