I actually prefer that my nativity features statues of people, so since then I have acquired several other nativities. This year in order to make Christmas a little less "Look, But Don't Touch!" for Jonah, I told him that the other nativities were only for looking at but this one he could play with. I put it on our entryway table where he could reach it and play with the figures.
I never realized what great adventures these little snow people had in store!
A few days after setting up the nativity I came back to find the table completely empty. Apparently Jonah decided that the snow people wanted to come visit his room while he took his afternoon nap. After that episode we told Jonah that the nativity needed to stay in the living room or else we would lose some pieces.
The next day Baby Jesus had a visitor in Bethlehem.

A few days later I passed by the nativity, and this is what I saw. Notice anything missing?

No worries. Baby Jesus was just out searching for the little lost sheep and asked the angel to help him. He is only a baby after all!
I have had almost as much fun this year with the nativity as Jonah! I love to watch and see what is going to happen next.
It seems the snowman nativity is pretty popular at the Honey House. Just today Thomas the Tank Engine decided to pay Baby Jesus a visit.

I suppose really should just get one of those Little People Nativity sets for Jonah to play with... but for now he is having so much fun with this one that I'm not even worried about it.
I am participating in Wordful Wednesday.

That is adorable! I love having a playable nativity for my son, in fact we have several. I think it really drives home the meaning of Christmas while letting me still spoil him a little with gifts! I have a Little People set. You should come play!
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a great ongoing saga! I love watching it go on. What will happen tomorrow????
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought baby Jesus' only visitors were the Three Wise Men, some sheep, and maybe a few other people staying at the inn.....
ReplyDeleteThat was a long jump from the Christmas tree for the gingerbread man to see baby Jesus!!
Too funny! I'm not putting out a Nativity scene again until I no longer have a toddler for that very reason! Everyday, a new ornament is lying somewhere on the floor in the house. Sneaky little kiddos! How can they resist all this 'new' stuff everywhere that looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteYou have to be putting this in a book somewhere for him to read when he is 30!!! That is so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I'm having a hard time keeping my twins away from my nice nativity.
ReplyDeleteI love this post and the play that your son is getting out of the nativity. That is as it should be, the nativity should come alive to all of us and tell our own story as well! Great WW post!
ReplyDeleteOh and forgot to say love the blog design!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! Our youngest was always nabbing Baby Jesus from ours when he was little!

The nativity's encounter with Thomas the Tank engine was my favorite.
That is hilarious and a first. I have never seen a snow people nativity scene.

ReplyDeleteI love it...love his little imagination:)
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! I remember having a little baby Jesus doll as a kid. And one day he was hungry. I gave him some peanut butter and he got some on his chin and clothes and my mom was really really mad.
ReplyDeleteWe set out our Little People Nativity and Autumn has been having a blast with them. Just today they were a cho cho train, all lined up and ready to go. They often end up piled in her blanket too! We also had friends over today and they divided up all the pieces so that everyone had some to play with. LOVE it!! I can't wait to set up the train under the tree next!!
ReplyDeleteHow cute and love that you thought enough to take pictures to document his creativity.
ReplyDeleteGood going mama!
Happy WW!

ReplyDeleteoh and i really do love that nativity because i collect snowmen. too cute!!!
I LOVE the fact that you are not freaking out and letting him play with this! Precious pictures
ReplyDeleteThe story will become a traditional Christmas story for sure. It reminds me of a great children's book, Mortimer's Christmas Manger, I think the name is. Check it out at the library. It is about a mouse who moves into a Nativity set and keeps dragging out the statues so he can have the manger all to himself until he hears a story and realizes that the baby is Jesus. You will all love it!and it goes right along with your adventure.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Little People Nativity for the boys. It's sommething I don't have to worry about them breaking!
ReplyDeleteThis is hysterical! So precious. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteThe little Snow Man soap opera has me enthralled..what's next?? Looks like so much fun..I want to join in.
