Adventures of the Snowman Nativity:
The Holiday Travel Edition

Yesterday I spent approximately 14 1/2 hours in the car. Honey Daddy and I woke up just after 1 a.m. and got the kids loaded into the car. Then we headed south.

The first hour we drove through a heavy snowstorm on thick, slushy roads. After that the roads were much better. The boys did surprisingly well. We leave in the middle of the night so they can be asleep for almost half of the drive. It was a long day and I am glad that we won't be making the drive again for nearly two weeks!

All that driving reminded me of the recent adventures of the snowman nativity that Jonah has been playing with the past month. Apparently the nativity has become a high traffic zone in our house. With all the visitors, there was bound to be a traffic accident.

It seems that Lightening McQueen attempted to visit the Little Snowbaby Jesus. Lightening's driver Mac must not have seen the stop sign. Either that, or he wasn't able to stop in time.

See the sign? Brake for Baby Jesus!

I have no idea how long the nativity scene looked like this! I was reading books to Jonah when I glanced over and saw this catastrophe. I have to tell you that I was laughing SO hard as I ran for my camera!

Ka-pow! Ka-chow!

I am happy to report that Baby Jesus appears to have miraculously survived this incident unscathed. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for nearly everyone else.

Maybe it's a good thing that only shepherds and wise men really went to visit Baby Jesus.

Luckily we did not suffer any mishaps on our way to Tucson. We are going to have a lovely warm Christmas here with family amongst the palm trees, cacti, and sand! I guess our Christmas will be a bit more like it was at the original nativity than it would be if we were home buried in the snow.

The only thing I am sad about is that we just found out that the bicycle tour that we signed up for New Year's Eve Day has been canceled. Honey Daddy and I signed up to ride 100 miles together near Phoenix and I was really looking forward to it (we even brought our bikes all the way here!). We would have spent the entire day together cycling. Our wedding anniversary is the 27th, so we were going to leave our boys with the grandparents for a couple of nights and it was going to be our little anniversary trip. *sigh* What a bummer. At least I've got Christmas in the next couple of days to cheer me up!

I am participating in Wordful Wednesday.

  7. Okay, You have such a creative personality with the baby Jesus and all...(wise crack would be that Jesus will heal the rest of the crew:)..but I have to say that the cancelled bike ride should not cancel the weekend away!!! I bet you could find a stretch of road to ride anyway and let those wonderful grandparents have their time with the kids...sounds like you deserve a romantic getaway...you have the time and baby sitter! Have a Merry Christmas with your family, I look forward to the wonderful photos you will post when you return!

  11. Well, I guess there is a reason they are called WISEmen, lol! Loved the little adventure here.

I also love the fact that you call bicyling all day fun and something you are looking forward to. You couldn't pay me to ride a bike all day, time with my hubby or not.

Give me a hotel, a nice bath and a fireplace and I'll call it good.

About your comment:I have a REALLY bad habit of wiping my hands on my jeans sometimes. I really need to wear an apron when I cook. I wear it sometimes but not all the time.

  16. My Mom did a crazy thing at Easter one year. One of the hollow bunnies she bought broke in the box, and so she mashed it up and put it in front of a big plastic model car and posted a sign that read "Easter Bunny road kill!" lol Too funny!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! And safe travels...

  22. The snowmen really shouldn't have set up so close to the on-ramp...

    Merry Christmas!

  23. Your drive sounds AWFUL. :( :( But glad you didn't have to deal with whiny kids for 1/2 the trip.

The snowmen saga continues to amuse. Of course Jesus was okay, but the rest... well, they never saw it coming.

  24. I'm glad baby Jesus survived without incident. I was worried we would be celebrating his death instead of his birth. Have a wonderful Christmas! God bless.
