Scavenger Hunt Sunday +Song-ography {08.11.13}

Family {Fun}
Going to the beach was one of the items on my bucket list for the summer. The nearest decent beach is at Bear Lake, which is several hours away. So this week I took the kids to visit my sister in Logan and we took a trip to Bear Lake play at the beach. It was a wonderful day and the kids had SO much fun.

Grass{hopper}
I found this not-so-little guy hanging out in my sister's flower bed. Though my sister isn't too happy she has grasshoppers, I new he would be perfect for this prompt.

Silly {Cousins}

Miss Aubrey is my only girl, and she is lucky enough to have a cousin her age. They were so cute playing together!

Half {Buried}

Here are my boys playing at the beach. Eli is half-buried in the sand, making a drip-sand castle on his legs. Jonah is about half done with his enormous sand castle complex.

Bow{tique}

Did I mention that my sister has four daughters? So needless to say, there were plenty of bows to be found at her house!

Song-ography
This week's song was "Both Sides, Now" by Joni Mitchell, which I will admit I was not familiar with at all. So at first I was going to post just these two cloud pics.

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Can you believe these clouds were taken at the same time, just different parts of the sky?

As I was looking through my pictures, I came across this picture that I had to include:

Both Sides, Now #2

I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all.

Where we were camping last weekend I was captivated by the fields full of butterflies. I probably spent at least an hour taking pictures of butterflies and got some really nice ones. I thought this one fit the song pretty well because it isn't too often you see both sides of a butterfly at the same time. Not only that, but caterpillars/butterflies truly do see both sides of life. They spend their early life as a caterpillar and then get to experience being a butterfly. Amazing!

  1. Ahhhh, the caterpillar has perhaps seen the ultimate in "Both Sides Now"...on one end of it's life it's a caterpillar, and on the other end, the butterfly. Lovely shot. I can never seem to get a decent photo of a butterfly. The never stay still long enough for me :). Thanks for linking up to Song-ography. Hopefully you'll recognize this week's song better, it's a bit more recent than "Both Sides Now"!

  2. Love that you did both memes. Let's start with SHS. Oh lucky you to go to the beach. Loved the sandcastles your kiddo's built. Silly is just so doggone adorable, those glasses are so fun. Your "Grass-hopper" shot was cool. I saw one at my mom's this week but by the time I went next door to get my camera the darn thing was gone. Wow that's a lot of colorful bows.

    Song-ography. Awesome cloud shots. You really weren't familiar with this song...you must be much younger then I am. - The butterfly shot was gorgeous and how fantastic was it to get two butterflies showing the top and bottom sides. Loved it.

  3. I love living near my beach world, so adore your first photos. Strange how one sky can be riddled with so many cloud patterns and tones. Delightful.

  4. (Visiting from Songography) Love all your photos from the beach, but your butterfly photo is beautiful and perfect for the song. You're so young: not being familiar with that song!! ;)
    Have a good day!

  9. Outstanding on both memes. The beach looks so darn fun (we staycationed this year and there is a part of me that is still crying about no sand). Fantastic grasshopper shot - seriously mad macro details there. Great clouds and using a duo of butterflies - brilliant.

  13. Cousins at the beach....great times. I probably take living an hour from the ocean too much for granted.

  14. Am I the only numbskull that read b-o-w as bending over from the waist in appreciation or the weapon that uses an arrow? Is it because it's been too long since my daughter was a little girl that I didn't think of hair accessories? BOTH of my granddaughters come over every day with bows in their hair! Love your bow picture....and the sandcastle burying half your son's legs is great! Never would have thought grasshopper....it must be your young mind. Send me some brain cells, please. :)

    Love your clouds, too, by the way. I started to participate in Songography this week, but was trying to complicate it too much....next time, I'll try just a simple picture. Great job, as always!

  16. I love the grasshopper photo! I haven't seen too many in Ohio this year but all the rain we have had made for a large number of toads. They don't stand still long enough for photos!
