Every time we travel to Tucson to visit my in-laws, we pass through the Joshua Forest Parkway. I love this part of our drive where sides of the highway are lined with these strange-looking trees. I have always thought they would be fun to photograph, but we usually don't really have time to stop.
This year Honey Daddy humored me and we all got out of the car so Mommy could take some pictures.
Of course I have tons of photos, but these are some of my favorites. Don't these trees remind you of something you would see in a book by Dr. Seuss?
It was nice to take a quick little stop and let everyone get out of the car and stretch their legs... especially after you have been in the car for about 10 hours!
The boys thought the trees were fun, and hopefully we will get to stop there again sometime.

You know, just when I read the title of your post, I thought about how Joshua trees remind me some something Dr Suess! We used to live in CA near Joshua Tree National Park and would hike there frequently. Ever since then they have always been some of my favorite trees.
ReplyDeleteWe are of like mind, you me and Emily! They are totally Seussish and because of that I LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteLove the last shot too. It's just a perfect little Daddy/kid moment captured.
What neat looking trees! I've never seen anything like that before. Definitely Dr. Suess-ish.
ReplyDeleteSo that's what became of the Lorax's seed.
ReplyDeleteYou know I don't know if I've ever seen a Joshua Tree until you blogged it. I might just have to travel to AZ and educate myself. However I need to make sure it's when the oranges bloom because I hear they smell heavenly.
that's cool. I've never seen them.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to the White Sands National Monument in AZ? Very cool. The kids would love it; take some sleds out there. http://www.nps.gov/whsa/planyourvisit/directions.htm
I love Dr Suess, and those do look awfully suessical. Glad he gave in and let you snap some pictures!
ReplyDeletelooks like a fun place to wander around
ReplyDeletePretty cool. I don't think I have actually seen very many of these. Maybe I should make an effort.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Phoenix and would travel to Vegas we would also pass a Joshua tree forest I always found them interesting. Course in the desert areas, people also have them in their yards. I like em, but I'm pretty sure they couldn't survive the harsh eastern MT winters!
ReplyDeleteI really like the one with your family walking toward the trees.
For the longest time, I thought Joshua trees were just a cool title for a U2 album. It wasn't until we drove to visit family in CA that I finally saw one. Totally funky.
ReplyDeleteI love the pics!
Nope. I've never seen a tree like that. They are cool looking, though. I would have enjoyed stopping to explore them too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the moment with us! :)
they are unique looking. See them every time we travel to Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteWell I love Dr. Suess AND joshua trees -- there's something so "western" about them.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots -- I feel a road trip coming on.
Reminds me of passing by the forests of cholla in new mexico. ;) I especially love the cacti when they're blooming. Joshua trees would definitely need a stop too and lots of pictures.
ReplyDeleteI haven't ever seen one in person! Cool pics!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, I've never seen something like that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today.
Have a nice weekend.
I love those Joshua Trees...I have never made the Dr. Seuss connection, but now that you have said it I will always think of that!
ReplyDeleteI have honestly never seen a Joshua tree.. they are very different looking..
ReplyDelete10 hours in the car.. YIKES! I bet that is hard with small children.. I know I even get tired of being in the car after an hour or two..
Cool pictures : )

ReplyDeleteI've seen these trees before years ago. They are pretty Suessish. I like that photo of hunny hubby and the kids. It's so sweet!
