Jiminy November Cricket!

I know some of you were probably thinking, "Yippee! Now that winter is almost here we will have bug-free posts over at Honey Mommy. No more creepy, crawly photos!"

Sorry to burst your bubble! My little boys must be bug-hunting experts! Just last week Jonah found this little guy hanging out on our back porch:

I have never seen a cricket up close before. He was pretty lethargic, so it was easy to catch this little Jiminy. He seemed to feel better after spending a few nights in our warm garage (until I had a moment to snap his picture).

But what do you do with a cricket in November? I didn't exactly want to keep him for a pet... but I felt bad letting him go because he probably won't last long in our current temperatures.

Maybe it was my conscience talking, huh?

  1. lol!!

It warmed up here this past weekend, and all the ladybugs & flies came out.

Buddy was protesting the treatment of flies in our home for awhile (couldn't figure out WHAT we were doing with the dly swatter), then he started trying to squish them too!

(The ladybug's we just let outside.... the flies, we swat).

  5. Yes, let the bugger go back into the wild. The trouble with crickets is the racket they make. Look out when they get into the house. Nice closeups.

  6. He may go underground and hibernate. I hate crickets so I'm glad he's at your house!

  8. Your son sounds just like my younger son, he used to bring all sort of creepy crawlies home in the pretense of studying them. Just last weekend, we spotted a garden snake in a public park and he wanted to catch it, but I said no!
I've never seen a cricket up close before, thanks to your son and you for sharing it here.

  10. Hi! Thanks for visiting me yesterday--so nice to meet you and find your sweet, cozy place here in blogland! I'd be feeling bad about the cricket too...I don't like to be a party to the demise of anything...even a bug...LOL! Happy Days to you & yours! :o)

  12. Very nice closeups. I hope you let him/her go. It's natural for them to be outdoors even if it is getting cold.

  14. Great image - I think that he'll figure things out when you let him go and probably find a nice warm, dry place to spend the winter. Love the detail in the second image - the one with the barbs on the backs of the legs.
